I am finishing up a PhD in 20th century Russia and Eastern Europe history at the University of Washington. My research is focused on the interaction between Western youth culture, socialist consumption and national identity in two-days of street demonstrations in Soviet Lithuania in 1972. I have a strong interest in public humanities, having worked for 12 years with cultural non-profits before entering academia. I have alternated between living in Seattle and in Lithuania each year for the past four years. I am a digital humanities newbie -- exploring new technologies that are intriguing and a little bit scary.
